We have a Win2K environment with 2 servers w/AD. Both have GC enabled. Group policy includes Roaming Profiles and File Redirection for "My Documents". Daily backups include SYSVOL/User Profiles/My Documents.

My question relates to Roaming Profiles and File Redirection. Is there a way to replicate (mirror) User Profiles without 3rd party software? I am concerned about loosing the DC that contains the shared GP Objects.

You should look at using DFS/FRS.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Thanks Mark, DFS is out due to Raid 5 setup with a Dell card that doesn't support native DFS. I know that SYSVOL folder is replicated with AD. I will try and determine if I can include another folder, else will use 3rd party. I would assume that many environments suffer the same issue I am trying to solve?

Honestly I don't think so. Typically you don't worry about user profiles if you are taking steps to ensure your users data is backed up. If the user has to start with a new desktop and recreate a shortcut but still has access to all their data, then you need to ask if it is wortht he effort and extra drive space to replicate.

Windows 2003 also supports Shadow Copies which is a major reason to upgrade.

I hope you find this post helpful.
