right now streaming movies such as avi, asx, asf, wmv are played in my Windows Media Player 6.4. But I have 6.4 and 7.0 on my system along with other video players. How can I make IE play movies with a different player?

I've tried changing File Type Associations, and even replaceing the mplayer2.exe with another player. it still displays with 6.4

You should look into the options in your other video players to see if you can set another one to the default player. Also, you could just open another video program then open the video from that player. Or just uninstall the 6.4 that it keeps defaulting to if you don't want to use it.

I renamed all my mplayer, wmplayer, mplayer2.exes and some how it still uses the 6.4

btw i forgot to mention I'm trying to replace the player embedded in IE.

The "embedded" player is in this file:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\msdxm.ocx
