Hi All,
I have a question about Domain controllers and Exchange 2003..

we are running windows server 2003, AD, on 2 DC's,, adsrv, adsrv1, and adsrv2
and exchange 2003 is running on a win 2003 server.

adsrv used to be the FSMO role holder, and the primary DC since the inception of the network,, it is about 10 years old now,, and showing its age. (I think the 100mb nic is the real culprit)

anyways, I have transfered all the FSMO roles over the the other 2 DC's and want to use dcpromo to demote that DC,,, and then setup a new adsrv on a new server with updated hardware.

In the exchange system manager,, adsrv is listed as the config dc. Is there something I need to do, to remove this DC, and not hose Exchange? Will it reassign that role automatically, or do I need to manually move it to another server before I replace the DC?

Thank You.

What I would do is shutdown that DC, and then restart the DSAccess service in Exchange. DSAccess is what picks the Config DC, and it should pick another DC in the same AD site.
