Yes you could. Just break off the tab in the processor slot wit a pair of pliers. I wouldn't do it unless you really had
to. You can get a new 5slot for less $150.00.
No processors have a smaller connector. The 2-slot carrier for the "baby" Partner system had 2 of the same size connectors, because it was strapping 2 206 modules together. The ACS 2-slot carrier has one larger and one smaller to connect an ACS and an expansion module. You couls theoretically put a Partner Plus or II processor and a 206 module together with an ACS 2-slot connector.
The oldest Partner 5-slot carriers had the push-pull switch that was also a circuit breaker (the 206 modules also had push-pull circuit breakers in them), then they went to a rocker switch and a fuse on the power back plane.
The ACS was redesigned for the removable batteries. The tab would hold the old style processor in place where they put the batteries for the ACS. If your going to upgrade on old partner your best bet is to get the newest style 5-slot, for the price of it replace it while the sytem is down during the upgrade the ventilation on the new 5-slot has been improved.
Hi jlshelton,
The center tab in the processor slot. The tab blocks the battery access on the ACS, it won't pop up fully when the processor is installed. You will see this easily. Just snap the end of the tab off.
1043 is right, for cooling considerations, go with the new carrier if possible.

The Partner and PartnerII 5 slot carriers are exactly the same except there is a difference in the type of switch that turns it on and off. The ACS carrier is a whole different color (grey) and the tabs that lock in the modules are on the top instead of the bottom. The functionality did not change and the ACS is definitely able to function with the Partner Carrier. Like others have stated, the only disadvantage is that the battery compartment is covered by the tab. This is really not a problem because you can snap it off. You can get reasonably priced used carriers and other miscellaneous supplies at
- you must click on contacts and look for Robert Daugherty, Shane Hurt, Mary Bourquin or any of the sales associates. They usually have those in stock for cheap. Hope that helps...
