Hi,

I hope to test hot-swapping a disk in a RAID-1 array tomorrow on a DL380 with an Integrated Smart Array Controller. The server was bought second-hand without any set-up disks or manuals. The disk I am putting is in new, and unformatted, the server is running RedHat EL 3.0.

My questions are simply:
1. Should it work? (!)
2. Can I do it as a hot-swap or should I shut down the server first (I can if I need to)?
3. If I do the swap with the server booted, how will I know if it has worked?

Thanks in advance.

I will post a response to this to report what happens!

Regards

Martyn

Thanks for that. I'll try it and see what happens.

I assume that insight is one of the things that would have come with the server if we hadn't got it second hand :-(

As a further question: can I take the disk I have removed and put it into another DL380 server that hasn't got disks in it at present and boot that server? I assume things like the server name will need changing (as well as a new set of software licenses if we keep the server running).
