We are currently using the Compaq 40/80GB DLT backup system with ArcServe 2000 on our BDC running Winnt 4.0 with SP6. I have been told to replace this tape backup device with a jukebox/tape library system so we don’t have to change tapes so often. But, I just read in “How do I avoid trouble with Arcserve on Windows NT?” that you should “not replace a tape backup device such as a drive or library on Arcserve unless the replacement device is identical with respect to the firmware, SCSI id, SCSI bus connections, etc….”

Need advice. Can somebody point me in the right direction?

Hi
You can replace it with whatever you like but you have to put in your consideration about how to restore the old data which has been backed up using old tape drive,I think instead on replaceing it you can add the tape library without removeing the current tape drive ,this is because of old data.

Was running the same setup as yourself and then switched to a Juke box arrangement. No Major dramas but it is easier to fault find on the seperate drives.

Have found upgrading the server ( HW and OS) helped a lot as well with backup speeds...
