HI Guys, we are in the middle of installing our new servers and replacing our domain controller. The set up will be as follows:
- We want to replace one domain controller, but keep the same domain name.
- Will only be having one domain.
- We will be installing the same OS (2000), just different machines.

The question is: how do we restore the active directory with the Global Catalogue?

As we want to use our backup tapes to do a restore; is it better to do an Authoritative or Non-Authoritative restore? Will this process be straight forward or need more planning??

Your help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Can you not just build the new server and make it a DC in the current domain this will transfer a full copy of active directory to the new server, you can then transfer the FSMO roles over to the new DC and decommision the old DC.

TOTALLY AGREE WITH PORKCHOP!!! So much easier this way!
