hi
i'm trying to replace a Linksys wireless-g router (wrt54g5) with a linksys wireless-n wrt300n but the second one, can't connect to the internet, what's going on?

The Internet? is that thing still around?!!

You're not giving enough info. What is your internet service (I.E. adsl, frame relay, T1, etc.)? If it is ADSL, do you have a modem, or does the router do the PPPoE? Does it not show a public IP address when it is connected? Are the DSL and Internet lights green on the modem? Do clients get IP addresses from the router via DHCP? It could be anything---did you turn it on?

wow! didn't think before asking the question
is a T1, it shows a public IP address the lights are on (hence it's connected) clients get addresses via DHCP
now i got it to work, but they are still getting a 198.162 address

thanks Burt

Your clients should be getting a 192.168.x.x
This is due to the router's NAT ---Network Address Translation
It translates multiple private IP addresses in your LAN (192.168.x.x) to the public IP on the WAN link and vice versa, because private IP's are not routable on the internet and you only have one public IP address. This is the way it is supposed to happen.
Can the clients not get out to the internet? What terminates the T1 connection?
