Hi
We currently have 5 * 9.1Gb disks on a PCI 3-Channel Ultra2 SCSI RAID Adapter, configured as RAID 0 so that they make 1 logical disk, hdisk4. This logical disk is mirrored to another RAID 0 set on another PCI 3-Channel Ultra2 SCSI RAID Adapter, using LVM creating 2 copies of all logical volumes.
In order to expand the system we need to replace all 5 9.1GB disks *2 .Four 18.2Gb disks will be used in a RAID 0 set and these will be mirrored in the same way using another set of 4.
What would be the best way of achiving this, preferably without having to do a total backup & restore?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi ,
You could if you have the physical capacity to install the new 18.2 GB disks and the 5 , 9.1 GB disks,
1. create a new raid set with 4 disks
2. unmount the original disks and rename the logical volumes and mount them on different mount point names
( thats if you want to preserve the current LV and filesystem structure )
3. create the original LVs on the new raid set , and copy the data from the old LVs to the one(s) created on the 18.2 GB disk.
4. You will have to do a restore , because the 18.2 GB disk volume group , if i've calculated correctly will have a different PP size.

thanks dstasmar,
We only have 2 available slots so the 1st option is a no-go. Guess it's an interesting weekend job to watch the restore go by.
