If anyone could just take a look at my proposed procedure and tell me if it will work or not (or if I am taking too many or too few steps) that would be great!

I have 2 Domain Controllers in a native Windows 2000 environment (Servers A and B). ServerA is being replaced with a new computer but I would like the new server to be as identical as possible (same IP, same name, etc.) to ServerA

ServerA also was the first DC in the forest and holds all the Operations master roles. ServerB is our Exchange 2000 server.

STEP1 - Add replacement server (I will call ServerC) as member server to the domain and then transfer all necessary application data and files from ServerA to ServerC.

STEP2 - Transfer all Operations Master roles to ServerB; make ServerB the DNS/DCHP server.

STEP3 - Use dcpromo to demote ServerA to a member server.

STEP4 - Turn off ServerA (permanently)

STEP4 - Rename 'ServerC' to 'ServerA'

STEP5 - Use dcpromo to make the new 'ServerA' a domain controller; change IP to match the original ServerA

STEP6 (optional) - transfer master roles to the new ServerA as well as DHCP and DNS services.

Thanks for taking a look at this for me!!!
