My 012 card got hit by the last lightning storm so I need to replace it. I'm concerned about extension renumbering since it has more ports. Can anyone give some advice? -Bunkman
If you replace the 012 card with the same type of card the numbering shouldn't change. Is that what you intend to do? If you haven't ordered a replacement card yet just double-check that it's the same type. Then it should just be plug and play.
that's the thing. you really can't get an 012 anymore. I was only able to get an 016 which has 16 ports instead of 12. I'm wondering whether the extensions will renumber themselves to adjust to the additional ports. -Bunkman
If there are no other cards after the 016 slot then you're fine. But if the 016 card is sitting amongst other extension cards you can potentially have some assignments out of whack.
I would strongly suggest making a full system printout before and after board installation. You should be able to find refurb/used 012's like the post above mentions. This should be more painless...
I've got another 016 and an 008 so I'm guessing the extensions on those cards will have to be renumbered. Will this affect any trunks? I don't think it will but I figure I'd better ask...... -Bunkman
Since there aren't apparently any loop start or ground start trunks you should be okay. The automatic renumbering will be incremental after the new 016 card.
Just ensure you have a current system printout of the system and prepare to reprovision a decent number of extensions after you note the work ahead of you from a post-install system printout.
If these lines are just analog extensions for stuff like modems, single line telephones, etc. you should be okay. If there are voice mail ports involved things might be a little hairier. Any group membership will have to be verified.
Good luck and I feel for you. Soon I will have to move a DS1 card since I can't have 3 of them in a single carrier. It will have to get swapped and will definitely take awhile to sort out. The automatic renumbering is about as annoying as the MLX phones getting oxidized keypads and adding trunks to pools automatically overwriting operator line buttons!
In any event I would definitely schedule the procedure for off-hours to minimize disruption since a few cards will have to be reprovisioned.
Piece of cake - since you have another 016 and an 008 after the bad 012, and you are replacing the 012 with an 016, simply move the bottom 4 connecting cords from the 2nd 016 to the top 4 ports on the replaced 016, then move each of the remaining connecting cords on the 2nd 016 down 4 ports. The 008 ports will retain the same logical id's.
Legend/Magix does not take kindly to moving memory around in an already existing system. if you replace the 012 with an 016 and there is digital ports somewhere down the line that are going to be altered by this replacement then check them after you change out the card, My experience has shown me that you may lose all the centralized buttons programming on your digital sets. The processor pre sets all the memory needed for each set when the cards are installed, ( board renumber) once inplace if you alter the board type and try to place information into areas that are expecting something else you may have corruption sitting and waiting to creep up. I would backup before doing anything.
Ken, you are absolutly correct that he should back up the programming before proceeding. However, in this particular instance, there is only another 016 Tip/Ring, and an 008 GS/LS after the bad 012 T/R, no multiline ports at all after that. In this case, installing the 016, doing a board renumber, and moving the connecting cords should be OK
Phoneguy, you're right! I had misread that as an 800 card. Rats, that means that the stations on the 008 (I'm guessing it's an MLX card) will need to be renumbered and reprogrammed!
I have run into these situations a hundred times, The way I look at it is :it's only a legend, can't take too much time to retranslate. I just print it all out and start from scratch.
