I need to replace a 008MLX w/ a 408GLM module on Legend R6.0 system. This is the current card layout:

A Slot # 1: 408 GLM-U
A Slot # 2: 408 GLM-U
A Slot # 3: 008 MLX-U
A Slot # 4: 016 TRR Ringing Frequency - 20 Hz
A Slot # 5: 008 MLX-U
|
A Slot # 6: 008 MLX-U
A Slot # 7: 008 MLX-U
A Slot # 8: 400 GS/LS/TTR
A Slot # 9: 100D
A Slot # 10: 008 OPT
A Slot # 11: 016 TRR Ringing Frequency - 20 Hz
|
A Slot # 12: Not Used
A Slot # 13: Not Used
A Slot # 14: Not Used
A Slot # 15: Not Used
A Slot # 16: Not Used
A Slot # 17: Not Used

The module in slot 3 has a bad port. The manual says you can change the module if you busy it out first w/o powering down, but would that apply here? Would a board renumber be required? If so what changes are required? Are both stations & trunks affected? Do I have to reprogram all the T1 trunks? How does this affect service?
Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance!

Having brought down a Legend R7 once, in busy period, by "hot-swapping," I now always shut down the system when changing a module. Even though the slot is busied-out you can induce a voltage spike onto the power bus.

Are you replacing the 008 with a 408 because you need more lines or does the 408 just happen to be on-hand?
Anyway, you will have to board renumber, which will bring down the system, so I would plan to do the work off-hours. Station numbering will not change, Lines/Trunks will, for both Slot 8 400GS/LS and Slot 9 100D.

You could physically move the line cables from Slot 8 400 over to the new Slot 3 408, to escape their being renumbered in Slot 8, but you will still need to check programming for Slot 3 Lines to ensure parameters are correct (GS/LS, etc.).
The Slot 9 100D Line numbers will each be increased by eight and you may or may not need to make changes, depending on existing programming and how used.

Of course, if Expansion Chassis #2 exists, the simple thing would be to install the 408 into Slot 12, no changes required :)

You can also use the 008MLX in slot 7 to replace the 008MLX in slot 3. Then move the 400 in slot 8 to slot 7, move the 100D in slot 9 to slot 8 and install the 408GLM in slot 9. Then do a board renumber and all logical id's remain the same and you have added the 4 GS/LS ports on the 408GLM.

By the way, BobbR is absolutely correct. Always power down when replacing or adding modules. The hot swap feature is a joke.

Hi BobbR & GoKings,
Your point about powering down is well taken! I'm using the 408GLM because that's my spare in this case and I don't have an expansion carrier #2 on this system. I like GoKings idea to rearrange the cards in that fashion and then do a renumber. Since this is my only Legend system I have not learned all the quirks and illogicals about the hardware and software.

In reference to the Board Renumber function, the manual is not very clear about what takes place and what you have to program after you do a renumber. What happens to all the line/trunk or station programming if the logical port numbers don't line up, since the ones in your example above do? I am trying to cover all the bases so I can keep my customer happy and the system running.

Thanks for your suggestions, now I will have to schedule a time to do this change.
