I replaced my hard drive and when i boot up it runs for a few seconds and switches off, nothing comes up on the screen etc, so i put my old one back in and it now does the same :( It runs longer if i remove the memory , but with memory in it runs and stops. i havent a clue :( its so frustrating any help would be greatly appreciated im at my wits end :(

Sounds like a good power test failure- put the memory back in, unplug the power connector and IDE cable from the hard disk, then try to boot up. Proper pin alignment must be maintained on connections. Some IDE connectors are not keyed and the connection could be reversed. Also it is possible to plug the power plug in to the hard drive upside down- opposite of normal.

A number of other things could be going on with your system components, anything could have happened- e.g. static discharge from your body could have damaged something on the motherboard?

P.s. I use to know something once, but I may have been mistaken :) Good Luck!
