I replaced a Motherboard. this is a Slot1 Intel P111 Motherboard. (Replacing Exact same Motherboards). On boot it checks memory, Recognizes all Drives and then I get the following Error: "CMOS Checksum Error - Defaults Loaded" and it says "press F1 to continue or DEL to enter setup"..

Problem is the keyboard wont work... On Boot the keyboard lights up.. I have the motherboard manual and have atleast triple checked all jumpers... I have tried a couple diff New keyboards.. I have tried unplugging keyboard and plugging back in (In many combinations before, during, after boot)

I do not believe it has anything to do with the CMOS Error, as I think that can be fixed once I can get into setup by setting the bios load to optimal or performance setting...

Any Help is GREATLY Appreciated...

Make sure that the keylock is not plugged into the motherboard by mistake. I've seen this happen numerous times when people swap keybaords, not to mention I've even done that before myself. Enkrypted

Thank You Enkrypted for the responce, but I have already checked that and just did again and the keylock is not plugged in..

Seems like you've covered all the normal basics of troubleshooting. One last step I can recommend would be to remove the board and benchboot it on a non-conductive surface. It could be that the board may be flexing a little bit. If that's not the issue, then it could possibly be a defective board. Enkrypted

When you go into the bios you need to make sure the keyboard is enabled check the time and load the defaults. Can you use both kinds of keyboards on this computer? It is possible the keyboard port is bad is it possible for you to return it for another?
Keep us updated.

Cindy1.. When you go into the bios

HOW can you get into the Bios without a working keyboard??

Sorry just nit-picking

I'm sorry I had a brain fart!
The only thing I can suggest is to clear the cmos and make sure the keyboard is in the correct port securly. It sounds like the motherboard. The keyboard flashes so you know it's not the cpu. Before I called the motherboard manufacture I would try another keyboard.

Thank You all for your responces.. I have tried 2 diff brand new keyboards, I have reset the CMOS, I have tried a bench boot, I have done everything except get out the Hammer...

I think the keyboard port must be bad...

It is very possible as Cindy said that Keyboard port might be bad, a bad solder joint, controler chip!!

Take the keyboard to your neighbors house and try it there...what are neighbors for? Or sneak to your public library try it there...Just kidding.

Good luck

I had a bad ps/2 port on my abit board, had to replace it, as it wasn't economical to buy a new keyboard & mouse, when I would have had to upgrade the keyboard in a couple of months anyway (due to age & onl used SDRAM).

All motherboards have a keyboard fuse. It's actually quite common for these to blow. The newer boards use a non-replaceable fuse, however some still use a replaceable (must be soldered) fuse. The fuse is located very close to the keyboard port, and usually marked FS1 or similar. This can be tested with a continuity meter, you should have continuity if the fuse is good. Of course if the mobo is new, then just return it.
