I have a laptop with the orig 5 gig hd (Win 2K Pro) that I was going to replace w/ a 10 gig and format w/ Win XP Pro. I took out the 5 gig, put the 10 in my other laptop and cleaned off the hd. Placed it in the laptop I want to upgrade and the bios dosen't see the correct size. It shows 65, 365 or similar. It will not load the os because it cannot recognize the size of the drive, when you go to partition it it will not change. So I put in the orig 5 gig still with the os intact and it will not boot back up to that one. I can take the orig 5 gig and place it in my other laptop and it works fine except for loading additional drivers, I place the 10 gig in and I can format it without a problem and load the os. I have upgraded the bios which is at Phoenix Ver 4 rel 6 to rel 9. Still not fixed. Does anybody have any suggestions?

if you upgraded the bios and it still doesn't work with either drive that tells me you could have possibly installed the wrong bios. when you boot up with the 5gig do you get any error messages? double and triple check what bios software your computer supports

Also if the bios still doesn't recongnize the 10gb HD try going to the manufacturers website. they may have a utility to allow the full size of the drive.

I thought that could be the problem but I got it from the manufacturer's website (Laptops). It is a Phoenix Bios and have not found the website yet.
I will check on the manufacturer website for the hard drive to see if they have any utilities.

Thanks,
