Hi all,

I have an Acer Altos server which has onboard Adaptec SCSI Controllers Model number AIC-7899. Attached to one each of these I had 2 x Hitachi SCSI Hard Disks model number IC35L073UCDY10-0 which were 36GB in capacity. I use a Windows 2000 Mirror to maintain these drives. One of the disks failed and has been replaced with an IBM Branded (sticker only, it really is a Hitachi) which is model number IC35L073UCDY10-0 but is 73GB in capacity. It also has SCSI-SSA on rather than just SCSI. When I installed this disk I can't intialize it because windows reports an error whilst attempting and tells me to check the event log. The event log reports an error – Source is adpu160m and Event ID is 11 which simply reports a controller error.

I have already checked for updated drivers for the controller and hard disk but there aren't any available above what I have. My other hard disk is fine and the SCSI BIOS reports both the disks fine.

Do I have a compatibility problem?
Can I use this drive?

Thanks.

A compatability error is a good guess.
Another thing I would try is to make sure the SCSI ID of the new drive is not set to the same ID as the current drive or the controller card. SCSI IDs must be different for each device in the SCSI chain. If the Acer is an older system you may want to Hard Code the SCSI ID. Check to see if the drive allows you to do this by setting jumpers.
