Hello,

We're running AIX 5.3.0.0. I recently had a tape drive fail. I've since replaced it with a similar DDS4 drive I acquired on ebay.

After configuring (jumpering) the drive the exact same way as the first drive, I booted the server and removed all tape drives from the system. I then ran cfgmgr to configure the new drive. The new drive is assigned RMT0.

I am now getting messages to "close the door" whenever backup jobs are attempting to run.

I've run diag and receive the following:

973-320: Error Log Analysis indicates a permanent hardware failure. rmt0 FRU: n/a P1/Z1-A9 Other SCSI Tape Drive n/a FRU: n/a P1/Z1-A9 Test media.

Am I looking at another dead drive? Is there something else I could be missing?

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Todd
