Replaced a bad tape drive and now I cannot get the SG driver to recognize the new tape drive.

Solaris /dev/rmt has the new drive
cfgadm show the new tape drive configured.

running Solaris 8
Netbackup DataCenter 4.5 MP4
L700 with 10 IBM LTO tape drives

Added two new drives without any problem in the past.

Here are the steps I have tried.

1. mv /kernel/drv/sg.conf to sg.conf_today
2. vi /etc/devlink.tab and deleted entries starting at
# begin SCSA Generic devlinks file - create nodes
and ending with # end SCSA devlinks.
3. ran sg.build all -mt 15 -ml 1
4. rem_drv sg
5. ran sg.install

sgscan will show the new tape drive not configured

You should not have had to do anything as the STK L700 with LTO2 Fibre drives use Persistent WWN's. As long as your Zoning and persistent binding were set correctly, your drive should work without you having to do anything except maybe restarting NBU.

Comtec17,

I didn't include in my earlier message but I am using LT01 drives.

I followed Veritas Doc ID # 266501, also used those procedures to add two drives approx 3 months ago without a hitch.
