replace lost "file>open" menu control

help please!!

my co-worker was batch-plotting, and for some reason he lost his ability to open drawings thru the Windows "file>open" drop-down menu at upper left. He can only specify the path in the command line which is a total pain.
any help would be appreciated.

set system variable FILEDIA to <1>.
