I have a customer with a ACS R5 and the replace battery message appeared on the phones. I have replaced the batteries several times and the message will not go away. I even rebooted the system several times. Any ideas?
Bad contacts on the battery cover, or inside the battery compartment. Perhaps the batteries corroded in there? Try cleaning with an eraser and see if it will work.
Check to see if the spring that makes the contact inside the battery slot has broken loose and is missing. Other than the obvious, that is about all I suggest. Good batteries, etc.
