I need to see about replacing a Cisco 3550 (Cisco 3550-12G, multi and single mode fiber)with a new model Cisco switch. Can someone make a suggestion on a comparable good replacement Cisco switch? Thanks for your help.

Do you only use it as a layer2 12 port fiber optic switch?

Probably a 3560-X would work out for you. You could also go with a 3750-X if you want to create a cluster stack.

Just make sure you get layer3 support when you buy them, because they can be sold as layer2. You'll also have to replace your GBICs with SFPs.

3750G-12S is effectively the equivalent of the 3550-12G. It has 12 SFP slots so you would need to replace the LX & SX GBICs you have in the 3550. Why are you replacing? Is it just EOL or is the 3550 faulty? I think the 3550 is a good switch and has most of the features the 3750 has (LLDP & maybe some 802.1x features are missing?).
