How do I copy from my old hard drive to a new bigger hard drive and the pc boot-up from the new hard drive.I have a Dell Optiplex150 with Maxtor 20gb hard drive. My new hard drive is Seagate 120gb.

I will appreciate and suggestion that will help resolve my problem
Thanks
Ngozi

NGOZI,

Get the Segate utilities and install the new drive as a slave(jumpers) & cable position. Run the Segate utils and select "this is a new Boot drive" and follow the prompts.

This will "Clone" the original HD to the new HD, Bit for Bit an identical copy. The utils will guide you through removing the old drive and re-jumpering the new drive and restarting.

The Seagate Utils can be downloaded here: You might also down the "Sea Tools" diagnostic utilities.

Segate Disk Wizard
Hope this helps

Yes that will work but:

If you haven't carried out a clean install of Windows in the last year, personally I would forget the clone and do yourself a favour by giving the new drive a fresh install.

OK! I know it's a pain but it will be worth it in the long run.

Once Windows, drivers and updates are complete you can connect the old drive as slave and copy any important data across if need.

NGOZI - just adding to advice given - after clone, remember to disconnect the original drive before rebooting (or you'll get drive letter issues). If you're running XP/2k, and haven't had any serious problems, I have to disagree with Martin about the fresh install (good idea for 9x/ME - they get clogged up just using them, but that's not the case with 2k/XP - so fresh install would just be extra hassle for no gain IMO).
