Hey all,

I've been having some issues with my Exchange server and while getting my issues dealt with I discovered that the one Mac machine on my network keeps "polling" my Exchange server once every minute. I would say that about 85% of my W3SVC1 log entries are from the Mac. Every entry has the exact same information in it. Here's one of the entries:

2007-04-27 00:05:42 192.168.2.133 LINK\ERIC 192.168.2.33 80 POLL /exchange/eric/ - 207 Entourage/11.0+(compatible;+MSIE+6.0;+PPC+Mac+OS+X+10.4.9;+Tasman+1.0)

I don't know much about Macs, but this seems kind of excessive. Can anyone tell me if this is normal activity for a Mac machine connected to an Exchange server? Is there a way to reduce the polling interval?

Thanks,

Joe

Id they are using Entourage on the Mac it doesn't work in the same way as Outlook and is basically just a POP3 client.

You can set a preference within Entourage for the time between checks for new mail.

Get on the Mac and look for the Preferences menu. It should be quite simple to find the right preference from there.

Foamcow, the POP3 service isn't running on my Exchange server. Also, I thought that Entourage used the MAPI protocol. I'll still check for the Preferences menu and see if I can slow it down some.

Thanks,

Joe

Trust me.
Entourage is not a true IMAP/MAPI client. It doesn't work the same way as Outlook.
It doesn't keep an open connection in the way a proper IMAP/MAPI client will. Instead it checks the mailbox periodically in the same way a POP3 connection works.

The mail is not delivered to the client. The client goes to get it.

I use Entourage/Exchange at work. That's how it works.

Check the Tools menu - both Accounts and Schedules.

The Account can be configured as POP or IMAP

Shedules sets various things including how often to check for incoming mail.
