I had a server that crashed;
My profiles were on a share ($Profiles)on a different drive,
So I formated the C:\ and reinstalled Server 4.0,

Is there any way to repair my old profiles ?

when I create the person again in UserManagerForDomains,
He is assigned a new SID which gives me User.000 folders
which means he's not using the same profile,

Any ideas how to repair this problem ?

Thanks !

Can you look in their old folder i.e. User with no 000 attached to it.
you need Administrator Privileges to do this.
Or is that the folder that was deleted?
The Profile file name is NTUSER.DAT or NTUSER.MAN if they cannot change it.

Do you know how to set the Profile path if one already exists
1. In Administrative Tools on the Server
2. User Manager for Domains
3. Double click the User
4. Click Profiles button
5. Type in path i.e. \\Servername\Sharename\profilelocation ….
If an NTUSER.DAT file is there it will use it

To create a New profile if its lost forever
On Client Station
6. Set up the profile i.e. Desktop settings, Wallpapers, icons, Printers, Drive mappings etc.
7. Go into Control Panel
8. Click System icon
9. User Profiles TAB
10. Then Copy to.
Put it in a safe place then follow steps above to 1-5 to put it in your new user
I just had this happen to me the other day, moving a NT workstation to a new domain, lost everything, user profile tab everything was set to unknown account, I couldn't recover and ended up copying the profile directory, deleting & recreating the domain user and logging back in, this reconfigured the workstation as a new user and then I manually copied needed files from the saved profile directory. Not that this may help you but I do know now that some or all of the profile information is stored in the SAM database.

I don't want to create new users I want to keep the ones I used to have !
Just Like David902 said , Thats what happened to me too!!

If all I have is there old profile directories !

Is there any way of putting the old profiles back on to the new system(install)from the old system $profile directories??

Thanks Guys !

Sorry DougP,

I'll try that and post !

I guess I didn't read it right the first time !

I think your saying that after setting up the server, just direct the new user profile to his old profile and if a dat file is there it will use it as the new users dat !
? right ?

I'll let you know !

Thanks !
