Had an issue with the systems32 folder, missing ntfs.sys file and others, and I ran the repair option from the CD. It started the reinstall ok, booted, got the 2003 SBS splash screen, and after I put in the CD key, it started to install the network components. This where it hangs, about 1/3 of the install with 32 minutes left. I tried disconnecting the network cables, still hangs, and removing the network card and it continues to hang. This has me stumped. I assume I can interrupt the install but I do not know what files I need to edit to stop the OS from installing. Have tried to redo the repair and it continues to hang at the same place. Any clues?

I'd upgrade the BIOS to the latest version or perhaps disable the onboard network components in the BIOS if there's an option to do that.

Another option is to disable the onboard network (if there is any) and also install a "very compatible" network adapter, like a DLINK DFE530TX or a 3COM.

The BIOS was updated to the latest last summer. Disabled the onboard network at that time as well.

The server only has a network card, HP dual port. I do have a newer card sitting around I could put in.

I would think when I took the card out, the installer would have skipped that to add later.

If the newer card does not work, I'll try the repair again.

Thanks for responding.

Here is an update - could not get past that point in the install so I went the more destructive route of re-installing over the original installation. It cleared out the old settings but, thankfully, my IIS files were spared. Will be moving that to the other drive to avoid a similar problem in the future.

The new delimma is finishing the SBS setup. It thinks I am upgrading SBS to OEM and it fails - although it started enough to get DNS, IIS, and Sharepoint running. Must be that my last install was up to date and this install is writing over some but not all of the files. So far, not real headaches. Short of a reformat and install, not sure how to get past this.
