Hi,

We are using Content Server 10 SP2 Update 11. In order to support rendition of documents is it required to install a Rendition Server also along with the Rendition Module? OR Rendition module is enough to support Rendition of documents. Note that we do not have any third party rendition server.

I am a novice to Livelink and am supposed to integrate livelink with our application. Our application has integration possibilities with Documentum and SharePoint. As rendition is supported in Documentum, we are able to identify the same when opening a document [available in Documentum] in the corresponding rendition type defined in Documentum. In order to verify the same possibility with Livelink I would like to know the components required to configure Rendition of documents in the Livelink setup.

Rendition in code can be done after you install the renditions module. Livelink defines "renditions" as a version that can have a different mime type than it.For simplicity if there is a woed(.doc/.docx) document in livelink at version 5 you can have a rendition of 'pdf' to that version .
What would happen if you did not install a commercial rendition engine(say for e.g adlib express) .The automated place where renditions are made will not be available so if you have a pdf print driver available you will print to pdf and attach it as the rendition. The renditions module is basically code to automate picking and adding finished renditions(which adlib does) and put it in the renditions tab of the document.
In documentum commercial print drivers are available so it is done at the codebase layer. In livelink such a java code base is not available that is the difference.
If you are a oscript programmer you can call java code from oscript and probably accomplish all this with custom coding.Livelink tries to separate activities with commercial solutions as such so it is marketed as more "configuration ready" than coding which appeals to certain sections of dms customers.

Well, if I called the wrong number, why did you answer the phone?
