I executed a CPYF to copy a new file and gave it a new name. The record format of the new file is the same as the old file.

Does anyone know how rename a record format of a Physical file without a DDS?

If you really need to have your new file with a different record format, then simply create the new file with a modified copy of the DDS of the original file, changing only the record name (do not add, remove, or change the position or type of any of the fields). Then use CPYF FMTOPT(*NOCHK).

But I agree with Mercury2's answer. The RENAME keyword exists for just that reason.

I'd like to change the world, but I can't find the source code.
