Hi!

It's a very long story, but it's resulted in us having an Exchange 2000 server with a DNS name containing a _ (underscore). Consequently some mail servers reject mail from a server with a hostname containing invalid characters and its beginning to cause us problems.

So-has anyone ever tried renaming an Exchange 2000 Server? I know from the start that it's going to be complete grief-but I can't find anything specific on MS's support pages at all... Which is worrying!!!!

Can anyone offer any ideas or suggestions on the possibility of getting away with this one??

Cheers!

You can't.

You will need to install another machine and move everything to it.

You could do this via the GUI or by just moving the databases once the other server is up. In Exchange 2000 we don't care about server name.

Keep in mind if you move databases you will need to delete mailbox on all users and then use mbconn to reconnect. Dan
