Can anyone explain how to rename a PC running XP Pro on a peer to peer network. The start/settings/control panel/system only renames it on the pc itself and the only user set up is the warehouse, and i do not want to set up additional users, just want to change it to another name and the computer says it can not be changed. Is this something that needs to be done thru the registry? or is there a better way?
Thanks very much.

Just to clarify on what you are asking, are your trying to rename the user account or the computer itself?

If you are trying to change the computer name make sure in the system properties that you are not just changing the Computer Description, but you are actually clicking the Change button. Also you should restart the computer after you have changed the name of it.

Reply if this isn't your problem or doesn't help.
