I have noticed that recently that I have been required to rename a PM 7 document I created over a year ago. The document already has a name, but when I open it, the file name is Untitled 1 and I must rename it to save any changes. I use PM 7, but saved this document as a 6.5 document so someone else would be able to open it.

Does anyone know the cause of this? It is somewhat an aggravation.

Thanks,

Daniel

Hi,

Pagemaker always open a PM-file from a lower version as an untitled document.

When you want a 6.5 version you can do this when saving. There is an option in the save dialog box that you can save as 6.5.

Carlow,

Thanks, for the confirmation of what I suspected. That afternoon at home, I opened the 6.5 document, made some changes, and saved it as a 7.0 doc. I reopened it, made changes with no problems.

Then I saved the same document as a 6.5 copy, and the problem repeated itself.

Well, you learn somnething new everyday!

Thanks again,

Daniel

Yes, when you open an older version doc it does come up as untitled. One easy solution is to rename the doc from .p65 to .pmd. PM7 will open it no problem and assume it is a vs 7 doc. You can also rename most .pmd docs to .p65 if you need to open then im PM6.5. The exceptions would be if you hade native .AI or .PSD graphics files included rather than .EPS and .TIF, or had used the relatively few new features included in PM7. Other than a few changes, the 2 applications are basically the same. Not that I am recommending this as a typical workflow!

When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
