Rename WSS 3.0 Server - Any Issues? 1

My server name was SP01 with an SSL Cert using SP01 and everything worked great. When I installed an SSL Cert with sharepoint.company.com everytime a user logs into the site internally they have to put there username and password in. When the cert was SP01 they were never prompted for the username and password (NTLM must have passed the values).

I was thinking if I just change the server name to sharepoint my problem will go away.

Any ideas or concerns I should have before I go ahead with the rename?

Did you try adding the new url to the list of trusted internet sites in Internet Explorer Options?

I added the site to trusted sites and it didn't work but I added it to the local intranet section and it worked.

Great thought! Now I won't have to change the server name.
