Rename printers in Active Directory with group policy?

Hi all,

AD newbie with a query on renaming printers.
We have a mixed environment of Citrix remote users and desktop users
and I want to rename a whole lot of printers; the renaming is OK from a
Citrix point of view, but what is involved in renaming the printers in
AD so the people with desktop machines see the changes? At the moment
if I rename the object the desktop does not recognise the new name and
continues to try and connect to the old name, perhaps I have missed a
step along the way?
I am hoping there is a solution that doesn't involve re-installation of
all printers.

Sorry to tell you that you won't really be able to rename them on the workstations. The best you could do is to build a VBScript based logon script that will delete and remap printers based on what printer is currently installed.

I agree with PScottC, a VBS script will be the easiest way to delete the printers and re-add them. The pain part is setting the defaults but you can do that with the scrip and a lot of if's

Do a google search for "WSHNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection" and that should get you started.
