I am running SBS 2003 and I am just now getting into playing with SharePoint. I noticed that the default domain name that it uses is However, I would like to rename it to a domain name that reflects our company name. How do I accomplish this? This is strickly internal, so I don't need to worry about registering it.

Hello,

I do the following:

In our DNS I add a CNAME host record
e.g mysharepoint.domain.com pointing to servername.domain.com

Then in ISS right click on the website where you have your Companyweb, chose properties. In the Website tab, click Advanced button, mark the entry you will see in the list and chose edit. In the host header value field, type in the new CNAME you added in the DNS (i.e mysharepoint.domain.com)

Now you should be able to use that new name instead of just
I am hosting some 50sites using hostheaders, so each site has their own virtual website, but they all have the same IP address but responds to different host header names.

Cheers,
Thomas
