Hi,

I want to rename columns'header with a macro by using the GetReportObject("Toto").SetText("Titi") method.

I want to replace the name Toto by Titi but it doesn't work. I'm looking for a sample code to help me (or another greater method to rename dynamicaly column).

Thanks

The easier method is to hide the column headers and use calculated text columns as headers. They can change the displayed text based on data values or prompts.

I'm sorry Dave but I think is impossible to place a calculation field kin header field.

if is possible tell me how to do this?

Gilles.

Gilles,
At the risk of second guessing Dave, I believe he means that you should hide the entire column header row and recreate it textually in a group header, amended as per prompts, and align it as to the columns. In this way, the user sees what appear to be column headings.

Hi,

I'm not very confortable for solution, I know it's the only one, because all setup must be done manually and we use a reporting application for don't to this. For this solution, we must fix a larger of column and it's impossible to use it for a crosstable report because we don't know how many columns the report generate.

For a best solution, it will be possible to use a calculation field or a file to be able to change header at runtime. I enter an enhancement to cognos but I don't know what will append with this.

Gilles.

Dave,
Thanks; I thought your reply would be a few hours more in coming due to your time zone. Apologies for my interruption, regardless of validity.

Hello,

Few days later my question I think the best solution is to put this f..... reporting tool in the trash !!!

I'm BO certified and I really don't undertand how Cognos can be the "leader" in BI with so poor tools !!!

At the end, to remane column, I display list title and put calculated field in with relative position to column header, and hide column header.

Thanks for help

Gilles,

It's not an issue with crosstab reports as Impromptu uses the data, not the metadata description, as the column header.

jpcjpc,

I'm sorry to hear you have such a low opinion of the Impromptu product. It does have some warts, for which users have requested enhancements, but overall there is little you cannot do with it. We did comparative evaluations of the BO toolset and came up short in the area of row and column-level security (the ability to have a single report behave differently based on the user), and the power of the expression editor. Hopefully as you work more with the product you will see where it's strengths lay.

lex,

No problem. Please feel free to elaborate wherever you feel I have left something unsaid that confuses the poster.

Thanks,

Dave Griffin
