Currently we have BOE and SQL on the same server (Win2k Server). IT is wanting to move SQL onto a new server, keeping BOE on the existing box. Due to some other apps and DB factors, the intitial thought/plan I'm hearing is to rename the existing sever and give the new server the existing name which will have SQL.

I have 40+ Crystal Reports with maybe 200 instances setup in BOE.

Has anyone tried this ?

What affect will changing the machine name that BOE resides on have and can this be easily reset ?

Will reports and instances still run since SQL will be on a new box but with the same server name or will the datasource have to be reset ?

Other ?

CURRENT SETUP:

1. Existing Machine Name- Server1
BOEXI
SQL 2000

NEW SETUP:

1. New Machine Name- Server1
SQL 2000

2. Existing Machine Name- OldSever1
BOEXI

Renaming the BOE-XI server or servers after you have installed them is a verrrrrrry BAD idea.

The server name(s) is written all over the place in the registry for the individual BOE-XI services and in the CMS and Audit databases.

If you miss even one of those locations (which aren't really documented anywhere) it can make your BOBJ environment unstable.

You would be better advised to leave the SQL server where it is "Server1" - and build a new BOE-XI server "BO1", then migrate your users and content to the new environment with the IMPORT WIZARD.

Once your BOE-XI server is built and the content is migrated, you can unistall the BOE-XI services from the current "Server1" location.

Hi,
I will add my 2c and fully support MJRBIM 's posting..

We did try a move/rename of our BOE server ( actually it was with CE10, which was much simpler than BOE XI R2) and it kept us down for 2 days..Not acceptable..

Follow the plan outlined by MJRBIM and you will be much happier (as will your clients)..

Thanks for the tips, they def will help.

IT is def going to be moving SQL to a new machine and giving this box the same IP and computer name as the existing machine. I have convinced them to not have BOE on the existing machine that will be renamed, thus will be getting a separate (3rd) server for BOE.

So it seems a new install and using import wizard will be best from what I've read. No timeframe yet but I'll post my experiences and results once complete.

(I didn't install our BOE originally and never have but with the good feedback and some documentation I'm hoping for no suprises.)

Thanks again.

Hi,

We have CE 10.0 + SP4, with Oracle 8i clinet. Reports are going againts 8i Oracle Server.

We are upgrading Oracle 8i server to 10G version and as per our Oracle DBA, we should also upgrade Oracle 8i clinet to Oracle 10G on CE Server.

My question is, does CE 10.0 support Oracle 10G clinet on CE Server and will I be able to report against 10G Oracle database.

Please advcie.
