Is there a way a person that can read, add and edit files but not delete files and be able to rename an existing file in a document library or is renaming effectively considered to be deleting a file and creating a new one?

At the moment a user with these permissions has to rename a file before uploading. I cant find a way to do it during the upload process or after.

Any ideas appreciated.

What is the purpose of renaming the file? The reason I am asking is because you can create another column for the Document view named Title and change the view so it only display the Title column instead of the file name and then your users can change that instead of the actual file name (just a way to cheat the system [wink] )

Thanks, I did think about that but was just hoping for the filename as when they upload existing documents, there is the odd occasion where they have used an existing document to create a new one so the original docs title shows up.

That is for example they may have created a letter for someone and then next time they do a letter they may change the name and stuff and save it with a different name but when they upload to SPS the title will still be the originals.
