I have made a clone of a server and wish to rename it (and change its IP Address) so I can have both on my network.
The machine is an AD box with it's own domain.
Any idea how best to go about the renaming?
There is no DNS server in use as every machine has a manually assigned fixed IP Address, and uses the Hosts file to handle name/ip mapping.

I'm also not particularly expert at AD! so words of 1 syllable would be helpful, oh and I'm talking about physical machines, not VMs

an "AD box with it's own domain"? Do you mean it's a domain controller?

If so, you can't. They both have the same SID.

Plan for performance, and capacity takes care of itself. Plan for capacity, and suffer poor performance.

Thanks for your reply. It is a Domain Controller with only itself in its domain.
