I am trying to remove some styles from my style sheet which has become soooooo big it is embarassing. When I try to remove styles directly, the style disappears until the next time I open the file. If I do it through the Define Style soption I get a "Bad Record Index" message. Any ideas

Hi,

The bad record index means that the style is still in use in your document. The best thing to do is search your document and find where the style has been applied. Select the text and apply the "no style" option in your style palette. You have to do this for every style you encounter.
Hope this answers your question
