Removing your reflection

Just got back from D.C. I took a few shots of a couple of names on the Viet Nam Memorial wall. The wall is polished black granite and the sun was quite bright that day. Is there any way to take the reflection of myself and those walking by out of the pictures?

I'm not a complete noob to photoshop, but haven't done much in the way of advanced "touch ups".

Any help would be appreciated.

well there are lots of ways depending on the picture and what version of PS you have. Can you post a pic example somewhere?

Thanks for the quick reply.

I guess the passersby don't really bother me. But, my hand in the lower right corner detracts from the photo.

I'm using PS 7.0.

Well it doesn't look too difficult.

There are three immediate options you can try, the clone tool, patch tool and healing tool to replace the reflections with another piece of the stone with no reflection.

click tips and techniques and scroll down to the PS7 section and choose the disappearing surfer, a patch tool movie. You will need to load Apple QuichTime movie player (free from Apple site) to view.

All three tools work similarly, you hold the alt key and pick an area to copy the release the alt key , resize your brush to fit the area you wish to cover then click the area you want to copy the "good" stone over the "bad" stone with the reflection.

The PS help on each tool is helpful.

Most times it's easier to use the magnifying tool to "blow up" the area you're working with.

You can also try to go to Image > Adjustments > Replace Color, select the browns with the eye dropper and play with the settings, then do the same with the other colors you want to get rid of. You probably won't get it perfect, but you can tone down the reflections. But the best way is probably with the stamp and healing tools, but they can be time consuming.
