Removing The Background

Well I have a small problem. I am making an animated gif from a small video that I took of a video game. In the last one I made, somehow I clicked something (totally random and was too excited to check history) and imageready removed all of the background and only left the parts of the character that moved (exactly what I was trying to do). Can someone please tell me how I can go abut redoing this?
