I've had a NW51SP6 server die (massive h/w fail) It held replicas (no Masters, just R/W & sub-refs) of various partitions. I've been able to force off the R/W's, but can't figure how to shift the Sub-refs. All the info on the sending £££ to Novell, but anyone here got ideas before I do?

DS version is 85.30.

Thanks folks!

Ian

Called Novell.

In case anyone's interested, 'dsrepair -a' allows you the option to do this.

Glad they're not my ££'s I had to spend.

How much did you pay them for that standard bit of support information? I hope it wasn't much :)

ILW - first of all, SUBREF's are automatically placed and you shouldn't try to remove them. If you do, you can cause serious problems in your tree. Maybe Novell told you that when you called them.

A good tree structure will minimize the number of subrefs. And btw, Subrefs are not bad. They are only bad if you have a lot of them.

Thanks Marvin. I'm aware of what you're saying about sub-refs, however my issue was that the sub-refs in question were on a server that was dead & never going to be live again. I was trying to remove the last traces of it from the tree.
