What is the best way to remove a server from a site? I have read and will perform the steps in MS Knowledge Base articel Q152959 How to Remove the First Exchange Server in a Site. This article tells you to delete the server from the Exchange Administrator. I have also read that you should uninstall using the Exchange 5.5 CD. Which is the best/correct way to remove the server?

Thanks for the info. I have basically read all the documentation on what to do before I remove the server, but I also read conflicting ways to remove it. Delete it from Exchange Administrator or Uninstall from the CD. Which is the best or correct way?

I think that you would first delete the server from the site through the admin. Running unistall will remove the software from the machine itself.

If you want to lose the server completely from your site (ie never intend to use it ever again), move or remove all mailboxes from it (to another of your exchange servers), uninstall exchange from the server you want to get rid of, and then delete it from Exchange Administrator using another exchange server (highlight it and hit the delete key).....

The only reason I suggest doing it this way around is that I recently had to rename an exchange server, and when I'd done it, the old name was also still present in Exchange Admin, even though the server didn't physically exist, so I then had to delete it from there.....

Adrian.
