Removing SCSI Cables

Hello,

Simple question...Can I remove a SCSI cable linking our server to our tape drive whilst the server is powered on? (The tape drive is off)
 
Not a good idea even if the tape drive is external. You'll upset the scsi termination which could affect your hard disks if they're on the same adapter.
Also, some scsi cables carry low voltage which enables the scsi bios to detect devices on the chain even when they're not physically powered on.

Not to mention that doing any kind of hardware maintenance on a live server is extremely risky!
