Hello,
I am not a phoen pro. But in a odd situation where I had to reduce the lines at the business that we had leased. From what I see here is the system info:

Merlin Magix system
The system info shows:
Type:Voice/Date
Mode:Hybrid/PBX
Operator:7100

I DO NOT have the winspm software as previous operator has no documentation or information about this system.
Now on my Avaya 4424LD+ I could see 5 lines form my 5 phone lines from bellsouth. I traced each line to the main system panel.
The phone company lines come to a small box labled:
Lucent Protector for 4 tip/ring lines
146c 4x4/CO line protactor

from that small box it goes to 800 ICLID (GS/LS-ID) module on the merlins magix system.
I have identified what phone number from bell south goes to which jack on GS/LS-ID module.
Now out of this 5 lines today I disconnected two of them by calling phone company.
I would like to know what do I need to do to make sure that it will not affect my phone systems regular operation.

I am sure that the line I just disconnected were outgoing only because I had 3 other lines that are in and out bound.

Also surprizingly the phone company wires that goes to lucent tip/ring protector has no dial tone when I connect them to regular phone directly.
Please help as I have additional problem too with this main CO lines After I Fix this problem
Thanks a ton in advance.

Rajan: You seem to have a Magix system. How many phones in total? Is the system set up as square (meaning each phone line appears on each telephone set)? If you just had the Telco disconnect two lines and you removed the now "dead" lines from the phone system - it should have no real impact - assuming you have a simple square setup. You should - however - through centralized programmimng - remove those now "dead" lines from the phone sets - otherwise you have two "useless" buttons on each phone that were previously designated for a phone line.

Thanks Tom,
I did physically remove the jacks from merlin magix that were coming from telco and have been disconnected. What I dont know is how to remove them from program. they were outbound only. The telco line I disconnected had a designated button on merlin 4424LD+ console.

As I do not have any software or documentation I cant find out a_way to remove that line from the program. I read whole merlin PDF refrence manual books, all of them but it does not tell me how to do this. and it does not tell if I want to add the line how I do it.
Thanks
Rajan

Rajan: Is your system "square" - each telephone line shows up on a button on each telephone? I assume it is. You said you had five lines, and now you only have three. Go to your 4424LD+ phone. Press menu, system programming, start, extensions, lines/trunks, enter an extension# - such as 10 - if that is your operator extension, you will see the "green" lights light-up for each "line" the phone system thinks it has. You should see five "green" lights. Turn them off by pressing the last one first, and then the next one, etc - until they are all off. Then, press the rightmost, bottom button once to turn the green light on, then press the button above that one once to turn it's light on, and then the one above that button - until you have three "green" lights on. Then press "back or "exit". You will need to do this for each extension number on your phone system. Press "lines/trunks" again and enter the next extension number in your system - and repeat the process.

Thanks Tom,
Its a small 11 room motel and each phone are simple single line phone in each 11 rooms. The phones at extensions have simply the 0-9 buttons and nothing else except message light. The console 4424LD+ does have 5 buttons that has a phone number written next to each of them.
The operator extension number I believe is 7100, as it shows up when I goto systems menu.
So as per your instructions I only have to do the process for console 4424LD+ and not on other phones.
Please let me know if I am wrong here.
Also a quick thing. Why does the telco line wire that enters the tip/ring protector and then to merlin magix has no dial tone when I take that wire of the tip/ring protector and connect it to regular home phone.
I will post results after I follow your instructions on the console.
Thanks
Rajan

Yes - you only have to remove the two "disconnected" lines from the 4424LD+. As for why the remaining three "live" telco lines provide no dialtone (when connected directly - I am not sure that you are connecting them correctly to a single-line phone. The connection from the Telco to the Magix system can get a little "complex" - because the lines go from a telephone block to an Amphenol connector on a Magix 412 TDL or 024 module. You need to intercept the Telco line - before it goes to the amphenol connector - in order to test it. And, you need to have the "tip" vs. "ring" wires correctly connected to your single-line phone.

Hi Tom,
Is there any way to take backup of existing setup and then restore it if needed later on if I end up messing it up.
I DO NOT have any WinSPM or similar software as I read it is needed to back the system up.

Yeah and the conenctions look very complex as the telcom lines coming from the conduit underground goes to:
A 66-block and then
To a 146c 4x4 tip/ring co line protector's CO line jack from the other side of the protector it goes
To 800 ICLID (GS/LS-ID).

I tried connecting regular two wire phone to the 66-block where the original pair comes from the telco. And i tried connecting the wire both ways but has not dial tone.

Any ideas ?
Thanks
Rajan

You can back the system up to the PCMCIA "backup" card that should be inserted in the processor(normally a backup is done automatically once a week - the files will have an "autobackup" label. Make sure the card is fully seated. Then from the operator phone, press "menu", "sytem programming", "Start", "system", "back/restore", "backup", and either overwrite an existing file and change the name or enter a new file name. Press "home" once the backup is finished to exit.

As for the two telco lines that no longer work - you can just unplug them from the 800 GS/LS module (if you know which ones they are) - or leave them connected - it makes no difference. To free up the two "line" buttons on your 4424 LD telephone for the "dead" lines, press "menu", "system programming","extensions", "lines trunks",enter your 4424LD extension number, you will see a green light next to each button that has a phone line. The line buttons correspond to the lines plugged into the 800 GS/LS card and/or the 412 TDL card that your 4424LD phone is plugged into. The bottom-most button on the left bank of buttons will correspond to the bottom-most line plugged into the first line card (going from the processor to the right - either your 800 card or 412 TDL card). The system labels this line "801", the next button up corresponds to the next line (up - which the system calls line "802") on the 800 or 412 TDL card - and so on. If you know which lines were cancelled, then simply press those line buttons so they extinguish. You have now removed those lines from the 4424LD phone - and freed up two buttons to use for other purposes. You probably also have a line pool that the hotel guests use that contains all opr most of your phone lines. You should remove the two "dead" lines from that line pool as well - because the system does not know that they are "inactive". The line pool might be "70" or some other number. It is hard to tell without using WinSPM to print out information on how the system is programmed. To remove the two "dead" lines from the pool, press menu, system programming, start, lines trunks, pools, enter "70", press the inspect button to see which lines are assigned to the pool. Press back and then delete the two "dead" lines, then press home to exit.
