We are using Citrix Metaframe XP, FR2 running on windows 2000 server. Outlook 2002 is one of the published applications as part of office XP having been published on this server. Now, we have an organizational unit that serves all our internal users and includes access to outlook and the other office xp applications.
But we also have another org unit which provides only a limited number of applications to the users in that org unit. They do not have access to any Office xp applications, but because outlook is installed on the citrix server members of this org unit see the outlook icon when they go to the desktop available to them through windows explorer over citrix. I need to eliminate this icon from the their desktop. Can this be done? Ideally I want to elimite the internet explorer icon as well.
Thanks for any help.

If you use roaming profiles, you can use policies to redirect desktop icons to group folders, so that members of pre-determined groups only get icons they are allowed to see.

Hope this helps

CitrxEngineer: But what about the Icons that are not in the all user folder? Outlook, and IE and My computer are not shown there. Wouldn't you have to hide them and then reenable them for some users only? Like using Tweakui to hide the icons, then make shortcuts to them?
Of course the IE icon on the desktop is not really a shortcut. If you right click it it gets you to the IE options. The same for the Outlook Icon, it gets you to the mail options.

Not as easy as you might think.

hi,
I belive Outlook is a virus (probably them attaches it
seeing in it their similar). To deinstall it, if I don't
want it, I have to buy Internet Explorer Admin Tool or
similar name, I have tried, but not still reached.

I have customized Start Menu without OutlookExpress, using policy redirect start Menu, but it remains on toolbar.

(Waiting to final solution, to avoid that user cutomize
their personal web-mail on Metaframe servers, I have renamed
the msimn.exe in the Program File\Outlook Directory: result
the file has been recreated at first launch: I belive it's a virus!)

For My Computer, using policy, I have not fount a policy
to hide My Computer: I have hided disks anf disabled right-click.

For IE, I have customized, using policy, the connection
capabilities to avoid some users can go in internet, but
I have not found a policy to hide IE.

bye.

You can always run a program (perhaps as the user logs on, assuming the server isn't locked down completely - unless you use something like su.exe/suss.exe), that removes the links and/or edits the registry as required. This can be done using kix ( or windows scripting ( although trojan/virus concerns may make you want to avoid that..... a bit of a hack, but should work..... Personally I'd probably go the policies/security route. If you don't give the users access to (say) the program directory where Office lives, then they may be able to see the icon, but can't run the application.....

Cheers
