We are currently running a Windows mixed mode environment with both 2000 and 2003 servers. The origional PDC is a Windows 2000 box. We want to reformat the server and reinstall it as a Windows 2003 Server. What is required to move these existing services to the new DC:

Master Browser, NTP time Source, IAS Access Server Auth, Global Catalog, Operations Masters, PDC Emulator, Rid Master, and Schema Master.

Finding documentation on this has been difficult at best.

Thanks!!!

Transferring FSMO roles;

Move or create a global catalog;

By default all member machines sync with the PDCe for time unless you have set a specific server in a group policy or something.... so by moving the PDCe FSMO roles member machines will sync their time with whatever server holds that role.

If there are no stupid questions, then what kind of questions do stupid people ask? Do they get smart just in time to ask questions?

You had trouble finding an answer to one of the most asked and most highly documented subjects for Windows Servers?

We thinks you didn't look. ;-)

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

There are no more PDC's! There are DC's with FSMO roles!
