Hi,
I installed Oracle-8i on win-98. It was working fine. But when I tried to install 9i, Installation failed to some reasons[I don't know why it failed]. But while installing 9i it did not remove all the components of 8i. Now neither 8i is working nor 9i. I am trying to install 9i, but could not. I can see all the Oracle menu items [of both 9i and 9i] on Oracle in Start-Programs-Oracle. But none of these work.
Because of this I installed Windows-me. It has grabbed old oracle-installation work and it neither works nor allows me to re-install 8i.
I tried all possible things like removing registry entries and renaming oracle home directory. But still it did not work.
Can anybody suggest me how to remove oracle completely so that I can re-install oracle 8i correctly.
Thanks in advance

Personal Oracle is not certified to run on ME but there are workarounds.

To reinstall, delete all Oracle files from the ORACLE_HOME directory, delete the registries.

Install Personal 8i but secure first the workaround tip for ME, previous postings already discussed abt this workaround but some do recommend to use it, its up to you to decide.

I am not sure if windows2000 professional is remotely close to windows me in terms of configuration but it is, then these steps may help you successfully remove components of oracle products from the registry.
1, from the start menu, click on run,
2, type in regedit.
3, when regedit pulls up, expand hk_local_machine,
4, expand software,
5, look for Oracle and delete completely,
6, expand SYSTEM,
7, expand ControlSet001,
8, expand Services and delete anything that begins with
Oracle,
9, Collapse ControlSet001 and expand ControlSet002,
10, expand Services and again delete any instance of Oracle
11, Once done, reboot your system.
12, from windows explorer, delete all Oracle products you
see and you are ready to reinstall.

*** Word of caution!! Be very careful OR!!!!!
