Hi all,
I am working on a friends computer, and they hooked up a new printer but left the old printer (Epson Stylus) software on their system.
I tried to remove it through the 'Add/Remove Programs, but I could not remove it I always would get the error 'C:\Windows\System32\Autoexec.NT...Not suitable for running MS-DOS and Windows. click close to close the program or Ignore to skip this step.'
I clicked Close and nothing would happen, I also clicked on Ignore, and nothing would happen. It just would not remove. there are also 2 icons for this old printer in the system tray, and I cannot remove them either.

Does anyone know how I can remove the software as well as remove the icons from the system tray? They are using Win XP on a sony Vaio PC. Sorry I don't have any more information on their PC at the moment.

Thanks,

Jediwarrior

Have you tried just removing the printers from the "printers and faxes"?

I'm just guessing but I would guess that the sys try icons are software that was installed when the printers were installed. If you cant use add/remove programs to get rid of the software I would suggest going into the startup folder in the programs listing.. or in the registry where startup programs are listed and remove the printer software from there.

This will not remove the software.. but it will stop it from running when the computer is started up.

Hi Auger282,

No I have not tried to remove the printer from the printr & faxes. I never thought of that till you mentioned it. I should have known that. I'll remove it and reboot to see if it removes itself from the tray. Hopefully it will go away.

Thanks,

You can also remove it this way:

1. Click Start, Settings, Printers and Faxes or Start, Control Panel, Printers and Other Hardware, Printers and Faxes. (This will depend on whether they have the PC configured for Classic Windows or not)
2. Click File and Server Properties.
3. Select the Drivers tab.
4. Select any driver that is NOT used on the system currently and click Remove.
