Alright, my 9 year old changed my password on me, and forgot what it was.. He said he just pressed buttons, so i want to know how I can remove NT 4 from my system?

If you were not logged in as Administrator log in as Administrator and install a new Password for you and an other for your son.

Depends on what you want to do. If you just want to completely reinstall NT, then just reboot from the CD. DO NOT perform an upgrade or it will pull the unknown password forward.

If you have another OS on the system (Win98 for example) then you can easily remove NT:

1. Create a bootable floppy (format a: /s)
2. Copy SYS.COM from the \Windows\Command folder to the floppy
3. Reboot from the floppy
4. Execute A:>\SYS C:
5. Reboot (remove the floppy). Should go directly into Win98.
6. Manually delete the \WINNT folder. There are also several files in the root: NTDETECT.COM, NTLDR, etc. Delete them.

Not sure of this was what you wanted...

If it is NT you are using, set the tick box for "user cannot change password"!!

Chances are, your default admin account is still enabled, unless you purposely deleted it.

See if you can login as "Administrator", password "admin", and have your way with your system.

This was after Christmas? That's one lucky 9 year old...

Hi fgbartlett,

You can rename an Administrators account but you cannot delete it. Well you could always log in as guest but you will have limited previlidges or log on as a service if you are running NT Server
