Anyone know how to remove all of the local area connections
in the network connections control panel? I only have one NIC installed, but it is labeled "Local Area Connection 6". Where/what are the other 5? How can I clear that "memory" of the other LACs?

usually when you first install a nic it will be called Local Area Connection. then, if you uninstall, reinstall or install an entirely new nic, iti will be called Local Area Connection 2, even if it is the only one in the machine. then so on and on. judging from that you have either reinstalled the nic serveral times or, serveral different types of nics.

to get it back you should be able to just right click on it and rename it to whatever you want. the name is actually of no importance in the operation and performance of the system. what i like to do, as with my server which has several nics, is to name each one something different that will help me remember which is which.

OK. I thought maybe XP was keeping track of the LACs and maybe there was some type of cacheing going on. Thanks.
